Autumn 2007
"Swingin' along- all in the fall
of the year... "
camp song |
| The
peacefulness of an autumn afternoon on Franklin Lake provides
an opportunity for one final paddle of 2007. Time to stow the
kayaks for another year! |
|

Colorful
maple trees trim the perimeter of the pasture.

Wishing
our Nicolet family a thankful day and a time to remember a
great summer with camp friends!

Looking
toward main camp from the Pioneer Unit. The lake water is
the lowest level it has been since 1988 adding more than 15
feet to the sandy shoreline. Everyone...please think lots
of deep SNOW this coming winter! |

The
back road to the Camping/Tripping building.

Boo!
Not so very scary after all...even jack-o-lanterns are happy
campers.

The
Sunday afternoon all-camp activity for autumn is tailgating
before a big Green Bay Packers game! |
Nicolet People in the News |

Members
of the Camp Nicolet Advisory Board met in October at the
home of Chris and Kay Korach Babcock in
Milwaukee, WI. A productive "meeting of the minds"
reviewed the
summer of '07 and set new goals and directives for 2008
and beyond. Front row:
Georgi
Starz; Alumni Director, Yael Babcock Stein;
Jeremy Starz; Allison Adams.
Back
row: Bob Hollmann, Barbara Hollmann,
and Barak Babcock.

Georgi
and staff alum, Kristi Voss
Johnston, got together during an early November
trip to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State vs. Wisconsin football
game. Go Buckeyes!

On
October 15th Jeremy Starz launched his new
business Starz Productions, LLC and his own professional internet
radio station, Radio Northwoods.com, from his office in Eagle
River, WI. To hear Jeremy live each weekday and listen to
world class music, be sure to check out www.radionorthwoods.com.
Click on "Listen Live" and enjoy hearing the latest
tunes and news from Jer. Stay tuned!

Anna
Hoch represented Middleton High School Drama Club
and performed at the Wisconsin State High School Theater Festival
on Friday, November 16, Jenkins Theater at the UW-Stevens
Point. Anna plays cousin Marjorie in a one act contest play,
“Bernice Bobs Her Hair”, a classic short story by F. Scot
Fitzgerald and adapted by D. D. Brooke. In the above photo,
Marjorie is played by Anna Hoch and Warren McIntyre is played
by Charles Stone. Well done, Anna!

Retired
from teaching at Northland College, Nicolet staff alumna Marlene
"Parky" Parkhurst paid a visit to
camp while attending an autumn class reunion at an area school. |

Nicolet
Program Director (and Jeremy's fiance), Allison
Adams,
trained hard all summer and fall to run in the Whistle Stop
Marathon held in October in Ashland, WI. Allison finished
with a time of 4:02:38 which gave her an 11th place finish
in her age division.

Nicolet
staff member, Lee McConkey,
went to college this fall and joined the Missouri State Water
Ski Team. As a freshman, Lee became the #5 jumper on the team.
All those summers of skiing and jumping on Franklin Lake must
have paid off!

Lee
is pictured (front row far right) here with her teammates
on the Missouri State Water Ski Team. After competing in tournaments
throughout the fall, they qualified for the Midwest Regional
Collegiate Tournament and went on to place 3rd overall as
a team. This placement elevated them to Division 1 at the
Collegiate National Championships. Unfortunately, Lee could
not participate in the national even this year as studies
at school won out. We'll be cheering you on for 2008, Lee! |

Allie
"chills out" under her space blanket and proudly
displays her marathon medal. Congrats on a race very well
run!

Giving
family supporters a thumbs up, Jill Starz
(Chloe's mom and Jeremy's step mom) accomplished an amazing
personal goal when she competed in the 2007 Ironman Wisconsin
Triathlon held in Madison, Wi during early September. One
of a few qualifying triathlons for the Kona, Hawaii Ironman,
the Madison version is known as one of the toughest in the
country. Jill placed 13th out of 53 women in her division.
There were a total of 2,250 participants. Jill's time was
12:40:40. Wow!

Georgi
Starz and staff alumna, Sara
Kumrow Velander, met up in September and competed
in the Stillwater Open
Water
Ski Tournament held in Cathy Porter's front yard!
Both
women hope to compete at a Regional and National level in
2008 - set those goals high and good luck! |
