Holiday Issue, 2006

Just in time for the Holiday Season, the Northwoods gets a long awaited snowfall.

Covered in a blanket of frosty white, the scenes around camp seem almost surreal and become a winter wonderland to enjoy all kinds of snowy sports.

The road coming into camp looks like a tunnel of flocked trees that sparkle in the sunlight.

Welcome to Nicolet in the winter time!

Right: Jeremy and Anissa use camp's fire pump to flood the ice in front of the ski pavilion to make a

super ice skating pond - lights n' all!

Holiday News from Staff and Alums

Kelly and Katy Eagen stopped at camp for their annual holiday visit - pictured here with Georgi, Jer, and Allie.

December 17th was a big day for Dan, as we helped him celebrate his 24th birthday in Bozeman, Montana.

Alumna, Kelly Eagen, recently took a short break from U of Chicago Med School to go climbing at Joshua Tree National Park in California.

Camp pals from years past, alums Susie and Jennifer get together in Texas...it just goes to show that "friends are friends forever"!

Alumna, Kris Langer, visited recently and helped us try out the new Franklin Lake Ice Rink with a rousing game of hockey - notice the nifty helmets!

Camp Nicolet's Advisory Board Chair, Barb "Bog" Hollmann, sent us this photo to prove that it even snows in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Cheers!

Nicolet Waterfront Director, Caitlin Gould, visited camp over the holiday break and skied with friends.

Do you recognize anyone in this photo? None other than "First Mate Smee" as Katy Eagen's Hope College Water Ski Team enters and wins the homecoming float parade as Team Neverland. Congrats!

Has Nicolet Village Gone to the Dogs?

A fluffy Alaskan Malamute puppy is joined by over 100 furry friends during the annual Nicolet Mushers holiday week at Nicolet Village.

Allison receives a friendly greeting from the pups.

Howling huskies enjoy camping out in the parking area behind Deerpath Lodge. The mushers and their teams take fun runs over 12 miles of trails that are a part of the special use permit trail system that Camp Nicolet has with the U.S. Forest Service. Summertime use includes hiking, mountain biking, and horseback trail riding through the beautiful Nicolet National Forest.

Welcome New Campers!

We are excited about welcoming the following new campers to Camp Nicolet 2007. We look forward to meeting you and sharing the fun times and adventures that await everyone this summer! Please welcome: Stephanie Birnbaum and Lindsay Malkin from Northbrook, IL; Ellen Martinson from Cincinnati, OH; Twyla Neely-Streit from Carbondale, IL; little sister Maddy Nesbit (Ellie) from Lake Bluff, IL; Isabelle Pyritz from Northfield, IL; and our newest "Nicolet Chip"  Emily Segan (her mom is Allison Lyon Segan) from Sherman Oaks, CA. What great group of new campers - and more to come! Stay tuned.

Camp Sister assignments will be sent to everyone in April, so be prepared to meet some new camp friends!

Wintertime S'Mores...Yea!

Sticky, gooey, fun! Even though you're counting the days until camp begins, now you don't have to wait all that time to have one of our very favorite cookouts treats...s'mores! Here is an easy recipe and fun variation you can make right at home:

S'MORES ON A STICK

Crush graham crackers to a fine pulp. It's best to put crackers in a re-sealable bag and use a rolling pin to crush them. Set out bowls of crushed graham crackers, marshmallows, small pretzel sticks and a bowl of melted chocolate chips. Poke the pretzel sticks in the marshmallows. Roll the marshmallows in the melted chocolate and then in the crumbs. Let harden on a piece of waxed paper. Yummmmm!
