Happy Holidays from Nicolet!

Over the 2007 Holiday school break we were joined at camp by some of our "summertime camp family". It's always fun to introduce staff and campers to camp covered in a blanket of white snow, ice on the lake, and lots of fun new seasonal things to do like cross country ski on miles of our groomed trails, drive snowmobiles, and even catch a ride on a dog sled pulled by a team of huskies! On New Year's Eve Allison, Jeremy, and Georgi were joined by staff members Lee and LP. Happy New Year!

Jeremy takes LP and Lee for a spin on the Skandic.

Jeremy puts on a few miles of cross country skiing through the snow-covered pines. During the winter months we maintain and groom 6 - 10 miles of trails in the Nicolet National Forest adjacent to camp.

Each spring, summer, and autumn camp's trees and bushes are manicured and trimmed. Little by little, a huge pile of branches and brush accumulates in an area behind camp called the "brush dump". Once there is enough snow on the ground and the fire hazard is minimal, we are able to build a giant bonfire to make room for next season's

Wayland Academy Ski Team Trains for '08 Season

Members of Wayland Academy's alpine ski team and their coaches stayed at Nicolet for several days during the holiday break to train at Brule Mountain ski area and get a jump start on the racing season. This annual visit began over 8 years ago when Chris and Jeremy Starz were team captains and students at Wayland in Beaver Dam, WI.

Leadership Fund Provides Camp Opportunities for Local Kids

In a gesture to help local children attend overnight camp, Georgi Starz presented a donation on behalf of the Christopher Starz Leadership Memorial to directors of Honey Rock Camp. Honey Rock is a non-profit resident camp owned by Wheaton College that offers  2- week sessions for both boys and girls. At the age of  5 and 6, Chris attended Honey Rock's day camp program which helped spark his enthusiasm for outdoor adventures and the development of leadership skills which are so important for today's youth.
