Spring has Arrived in the Northwoods!

Kayaking among the ice floes on Franklin Lake, Georgi enjoys the first of the warm days at Nicolet which promise that summer is coming soon! Speaking of ice...remember to send in your best guess for the annual Franklin Lake Ice Off Contest. It's not too late to win a brand new '07 Nicolet T-shirt!

A Canadian goose lands gracefully to rest on the open water near the water ski area before continuing the long journey north for the summer.

Co-existing peacefully, a goose paddles past the ice and an enthusiastic loon who has returned to his/her summer home on Franklin Lake.

What We Can Learn from Geese

Fact: As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift draft for the bird following. By flying in a "V" formation, the whole flock adds a greater flying range than if one bird flew alone.

Lesson: People who share a common direction and a sense of community can get where they're going quicker and more easily because they are traveling on the strength of one another.

Returning to scope out a nest for the spring, our "Nicolet Village Eagles" gaze watchfully from their perch high above Chalet.

Nicolet Reunions Around the World

Staff members Alex (from Canada), Neha (from England), and Sarah (from New Zealand but working in Canada) had fun snowboarding at Whistler, BC, Canada.

Having a fun mother/daughter - "Nicolet Chips" and alumnae - reunion in Berlin, Germany recently was none other than Lexi and Linda Pargh Mossman along with Stacy Ehrlich Wiedenmann and Leah. The Wiedenmanns also met new camper, Isabelle Pyritz, this winter.

People (and Puppies) in the News

Administrative Staff member, Katy Eagen who is a graduating Senior at Hope College, had one of the lead roles in the winter theater production cast as Olivia Crabtree.

A cute canine addition to the Starz/Adams household is Bridger, a 7 week old Chocolate Lab puppy. Bridger has been very busy supervising all the camp projects!

New Nicolet "Chips"

In addition to the new Chips mentioned in the last several issues, we wish to recognize these campers whose moms were also campers at Nicolet: Gracie Hoffman (Betsy Greenbaum Hoffman), Maddie Kerch (Stephanie Brown Kerch),

Anamer de Angoitia (Paulina Flores de

Angoitia), and Carly White (Linda Annes White). We look forward to seeing you all very soon! It sounds like the moms are also looking forward to their visiting days this summer .

What's New at Camp for 2007?

An almost brand new Correct Craft Ski Nautique 196 tops the "new list" and warms the hearts of our Nicolet skiers

and ski/wakeboard staff. Add a new pair of combo O'Brien skis for a bonus. Fun times in the ski area once again!

Bob did a major remodeling job inside the Tripping building with a new checkout counter, storage space, and nice pine paneling. Wow!

The second annual "Women of the Woods" work weekend tackled the big project of clearing and brushing the area around the Frog Pond making the entrance to camp more attractive than ever! Thanks for the hours of hard work and the big smiles!

Other projects that have kept us very busy last autumn and this spring include a new shelter at Back of the Hill campsite in the Nicolet Outpost, renovated stalls with new rubber matting in the stables, refinished surfaces of the Dining Hall tables, the installation of a new business phone system, new computers for the office, satellite internet service in the camp office, 2 new sails for the Sunfish, and new additions to the sports equipment - including new soccer goals. There are countless other little improvements and additions throughout camp, fresh coats of paint, and lots more to make things nice and to welcome everyone to their summer home at Camp Nicolet!

Jeremy and Allison, along with volunteer parents Neal and Cheryl Adams, construct a nice octagonal sleeping platform for the Frog Pond Hill campsite tipi. Campers will sleep in comfort on those fun overnights.

A new Hobie Wave catamaran has been added to our Nicolet fleet and promises fun sailing for all campers!

Jeremy tries his hand at operating a tractor and bucket to

smooth out the camp road. Can you tell by the smile that this is his suppressed desire?

A beautiful double rainbow over Franklin Lake brings good luck for a great summer 2007!
