Staff Training '07...The Amazing Race

The Amazing Race was the 2007 theme for precamp staff training which sent teams of staff throughout camp in search of camp-related historical clues. This creative approach to team building, discovering the physical layout of the campgrounds, and learning Nicolet's history allowed staff to endure the many hours of training and preparation in a fun and meaningful manner. The week prior to staff orientation found a majority of Nicolet staff participating in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Wilderness First Aid, and USA Water Ski Instructor certification schools. CPR and First Aid certification was required of everyone as a part of staff development with additional seminars in instructional techniques, program planning, youth development implementation, and numerous other subjects. Everyone was greatly looking forward to the campers' arrival on June 23rd!

An amazing group of returning CITs took part in staff training week. Here's to Megan, Amy, JLo, Sami, Rose, Abbey, and Lizzy!

Incorporated into CIT and staff duties this summer are a few hours of helping scrape dishes after meals in order to appreciate the hard working kitchen staff and learn better ways to avoid food waste and cleanup.

Tripping Staff Enjoy Sylvania Wilderness Adventure

Members of the 2007 Nicolet Camping/Tripping Staff participated in a 2-day trip orientation in the nearby beautiful Sylvania Wilderness. While on trail, the staff reviewed various outdoor living skills and leave no trace camping ethics in preparation for leading trips with campers during the summer.

Tripping staff, Andy and Alicia, purify drinking water while doing a great balancing act.

After a successful portage, canoe rescues were reviewed and fun to practice in the warm temperatures and crystal clear water of Clark Lake.

Above: Our great C/T Staff members this summer include Head Counselor, Jodi, and enthusiastic new additions - External Tripping Director, Alicia and new staff member, Emily...all enjoying their tinfoil dinners!

Left: And who supervised the whole trip? None other than Bridger puppy who decided that swimming and riding and napping in the canoe with Jeremy and Allison was lots of fun. Camping rules!

Here's to the Nicolet Staff of 2007...may you enjoy your summer adventure. May you be a good role model for the many campers who look up to you, make new friends among your peers, learn more about yourself, be safe, and have the summer of a lifetime!
