Week 1, 2006

Welcome to Nicolet 2006!

The camp buses rolled into camp on June 24th to begin Nicolet's 62nd year of summer adventures and fun. Staff and CITs greeted campers with cabin banners in hand. Friendships were quickly renewed and new ones formed as campers settled into their summer homes. After a tour of camp and dinner, introductions in Forest Lodge followed. Everyone was ready for taps after the first big day!

Introductions and Camp Sister Party Time!

Introductions are always entertaining!

Right: Jeremy presents the 2006 Nicolet Staff with their "World Class" T-shirts at the annual precamp staff dinner. Accepting her shirt is new staff member Sarah

from New Zealand.

The Camp Sister party takes place the second evening of each session and gives Camp Sisters a chance to meet one another, play fun interactive games, take boat rides around Franklin Lake in the ski boats, and enjoy a campfire in the Council Ring. A perfect evening at camp!

Camp Sisters take turns touring the sights around Franklin Lake including a big beaver house, Tiger's Tail, and two huge Bald Eagle nests near Nicolet Village.

Jean Nicolet Visits Opening Campfire

The opening campfire each summer includes the traditional story telling of the totem and the history of the Nicolet National Forest and French explorer Jean Nicolet (and company).

Advanced Campers Enjoy Peshtigo River Rafting

The ACs' annual 1st session trip is

white water rafting in rafts or funyaks. As always, it was a blast!

Nicolet CITs Participate in Leadership Day

Climbing the 40 ft. pamper pole was a challenge and the leap of faith to ring the bell was a real rush!

Our 2006 Counselors in Training had an opportunity to participate in a leadership

training day held at Camp ManitoWish.

The morning included team building and low initiatives while the afternoon brought excitment and challenge on the

high ropes course. Elements such as the flying squirrel and the pamper pole

were a real hit!

Fun at the Nicolet High School Prom!

Saturday, July 1st was the first special Dining Hall evening of 2006. The" Nicolet High School Prom" was a huge success. Great decorations and food were complimented by music which Jeremy professionally DJed for everyone's enjoyment.

The Starz are out tonight!

The Backstreet Boys were the bouncers.

Party Boy Dan with Gabe who "went stag".

Nicolet Prom King and Queen, Dan and Kelly, recently surprised the entire camp by announcing their engagement for real.

Congratulations to two super staff!!!

The infamous prom committee.

First Wednesday Cookouts...Yum!

Angels on Horseback and s'mores were the special menu items to practice "stick cooking" on the first cookout for 2006. A few showers early in the afternoon were followed by a beautiful evening. Cabins Juniper and Spruce did a great job of campfire cooking for the first time (Jeremy helped too)!

Every Wednesday afternoon each cabin group hikes to the Nicolet Outpost campsites to practice outdoor living skills and to cook their supper over a campfire. Overnights each session are fun too!

More Fun During Week One

Mealtimes are special times during the day...a time to visit, relax, and enjoy

yummy food! Clean cabin caper flags are announced (it's a close race at present), and camper and staff birthdays are celebrated as a part of our big

Nicolet camp family fun.
