Week 4, 2006
2nd
Session '06 Off to a Great Start! |

Week #4 Busy
With Introduction Skits, Camp Sister Party, and Boat Rides
Mid
afternoon on July 16th the camp bus was greeted by excited
campers and staff...ready to begin 4 weeks of more fun and
friendships. Busy days included the first evening cabin intros
and skits followed on Monday evening by the 2nd session Camp
Sister mixer and boat rides around Franklin Lake. Temperatures
in the Northwoods continue to be in the 80s and the lake is
sooo warm and nice! Tripping activities are in high gear with
the sea kayak adventure, the
new Voyageur canoe
trip,
and currently the Porcupine Mountain backpacking trips all
offering unique and challenging opportunities for our teens.
In camp activities
are as popular as ever with ideal weather and best friends
to share each summer day at camp!

Boat

session campers are happy to be reunited with their camp friends
once again.

The
Great Sea Kayak Adventure 2006 |
| Our
13 sea kayakers led by Crystal, Danny and three guides from
our camp outfitters enjoyed wonderfully warm weather and calm
seas on Lake Superior. Paddling around the Apostle Islands,
walking the sand beaches, hiking across islands, picking berries,
swimming, and basking in the magic of the moment with best friends
created memories that will last forever! |
Safety
Orientation at Camp
Prior
to departure, our guides come to camp and give all the participants
an
instructional
safety course in preparation for the big trip. Wet suits are
fitted, paddling skills are learned,
kayaks
are overturned (on purpose) and emptied, and last minute preparations
are made.

skills for overturned kayaks.

The
fun part is trying to get back on board!

The
13 Tamarack and Deerpath campers who participated on the kayak
trip are fitted for their wetsuits and life vests and given
dry bags to pack personal gear. Lovely, ladies!
Thanks
to our volunteer staff members, Crystal and Danny, for giving
the girls a fun and safe trip! |

The
Life of a Voyageur...
A
Camp Nicolet Tradition Renewed |

After
more than 20 years, Nicolet campers once again ventured
to the Boundary Waters for a special week long canoe trip
adjacent to the Canadian wilderness. Led by staff members
Dan, Kelly, and Lee, our senior campers paddled the lakes
and streams, viewed beautiful sunsets, and built muscles
by portaging their gear. For many years Camp Nicolet's Co-founder,
Wendall Schrader (Georgi's father and Jeremy's grandfather),
personally led the Canadian trip and many alumnae have fond
memories of their explorations and adventures in days past.
We're pleased to be able to offer this opportunity once
again to our Nicolet campers.

Notes
