Nicolet Hosts Invitational Sailing Regatta

Crews ready their sailboats in preparation for the 5 camp regatta.

Five area camps participated in the annual Nicolet regatta held on Franklin

Lake. Camps Kawaga, Menominee,

Clearwater, and Horseshoe joined us for

a great day that included a BBQ, race and an afternoon awards ceremony. Fun!

Porcupine Mountains Backpackers X 3

2005 set a new record for the Porkies

backpacking trip with 38 campers eligible to explore the mini mountains and shores of Lake Superior located in the Iron Range of Upper Michigan. Hiking the scenic trails for three days, learning the basics of using camp stoves and water purifiers, and being able to challenge and pace oneself is a

true learning experience. The Porkies trek is a prerequisite for the Honors Isle Royale adventure which is offered to

campers 15 and older.

Warm Temps Make Waterfront Activities a Hit

Campers enjoy the warm water and 90 degree temperatures in a few of Nicolet's new kayaks.

Gabe gives Rachel a few boardsailing pointers.

Smallcraft at every level has been popular this summer. Campers now have the option of signing up for 12 hours per week of canoeing, kayaking, sailing,

and/or boardsailing as a part of their instructional activities. Thanks to Dan and his SC staff!

Lauren gets the hang of it!

Six campers and CITs represented

Nicolet at Camp Kawaga's Invitational

Ski and Wakeboard Tournament held in

Minocqua, WI. Nicolet finished 2nd

overall as a team and proudly brought home numerous individual ribbons for their efforts. Most significant were the wakeboarding awards as we were the only camp with a girls' wakeboarding team. High finisher was JLo with a

2nd place finish in slalom on the Kawaga course and a 3rd place finish

in trick skiing. Congratulations to our

girls and to coaches Katy and Chris

for putting forth such a great effort.

Hit it!

First session skiing culminated in a fun

intracamp tournament which included

1 and 2 ski slalom, tricking, and jumping. Everyone had loads of fun!

Cool Treats and Yummy Eats!

Happy birthday to Lizzie...and round the table!

Nothing like having your cake and eating it too.

Canteen time has and will always be a very memorable

and favorite social time at camp. Going to the camp store for a pop, candy bar, a few stamps and postcards, and maybe a camp sweatshirt (and don't forget the Camp Suds) is our version of the "camp mall". No shopping sprees here!

Franklin Factoid: So far the warmest summer in decades, the surface water

temperature of Franklin Lake has averaged around 78F degrees with an all-time high of

85F during mid July. We can hardly wait to jump in the lake!

Parent Reminders: The CITs, our wonderful gals who sort the mail and e-mails each day, kindly request that your camper's cabin name appears on envelopes and

at the top of e-mails. It will make their job soooo much easier. Thanks!
