Week 5, 2007
| The
all-camp Sunday afternoon activity of the week was a new twist
to a treasure hunt. Each cabin dressed in a common theme and
worked together as a team to find the hidden golden nuggets
that were stashed around camp. They had to beware of various
hazards such as bandits and leprechauns who tried to steal the
gold. Also |
being
put in jail proved to be a major inconvenience as cabinmates
had to use their gold nuggets to get their friends out of
jail. The goal was to see which cabin could collect the most
gold by the end of the afternoon. They were able to use their
nuggets to buy various "counselor related" chores
and feats. Fun!

Beware
of Bandit Andy!

Poor
us...we're in jail!

Yo,
we're Pines cabin!

Voyageurs
Venture to Boundary Waters |
| The
second annual Voyageur canoe trip returned to camp last week
after 6 days of paddling the rivers and lakes of the USA-Canadian
Boundary Waters. The canoers traveled through many areas where
a huge forest fire ravaged the land last summer leaving burned
out acres of charred trees. The Counselors in Training who participated
reported that it was a super experience and a great trip! |
|
The
first few days was mainly river paddling.

"Fairy
Tales" Theme for Festive Evening |
| Another
super Dining Hall theme evening took place on Saturday, July
28th when "Fairy Tales" came alive at Nicolet. Several
tables were grouped together and assigned specific fairy tales.
Campers and staff came to dinner dressed as those characters
and the staff enacted the story with entertaining skits throughout
dinner. |

Porcupine
Mountain Trips Hit the Trail |
| The
Porcupine Mountain trips for campers having completed 7th grade
are an introduction to the more advanced tripping options in
future years. The girls learn the basics of packing out, the
use of water purifiers and camp stoves, backpacking techniques,
and outdoor living skills. Located on the shores of Lake Superior,
the state park is a scenic combination of lakeshore, rivers,
forests, and rocky terrain. |
