Week 6 - Part B, 2007

My Paddles Keen and Bright - Sylvania Wilderness Trippers

The Sylvania Wilderness area in Upper Michigan offers a great entry level canoe tripping experience for campers entering 7th grade. The crystal clear water and designated camping areas make this trip scenic and fun. Three days of canoeing and two nights of camping help prepare the girls for longer and more challenging trips to come!

Campers learn how to portage canoes and gear.

The lakeside camping areas and quiet evenings are a welcome break from noisy reality.

Once again, warmer than normal temps greeted the trippers during the week. Surrounded by water, it was a great excuse to swim whenever possible and enjoy the company of fellow campmates and trip leaders.

Soccer Matches Highlight Sixth Week

The junior team that represented Nicolet at Camp Red Pine for a fun match on Thursday.

The sixth week marked a big soccer week at Nicolet with our very own first invitational tournament which included girls from Clearwater Camp and boys from Camp Highlands and Camp Horseshoe. The girls' teams played one another with Nicolet winning by a close game of 1-0. The boys' teams competed with Highlands winning their match. Clearwater then played Horseshoe and Nicolet played Highlands in well played games that both ultimately finished in the boys' favor.

Nicolet's senior team played two hard games and represented us extremely well.

Stretching before the big game.

Anna wins the ball.

Eleanor around the corner.

Gabi passes toward the goal.

Ref Jeremy with two lovely sideline flag ladies. Nicolet campers were able to watch the matches during rest hour and cheer on their friends - as well as the guys!

Chloe was dynamite as keeper.

Oranges...yummy!

Izzie takes a break after giving her best on a hot summer afternoon.

Maybe too many oranges?

"And then this big player came along..."

"Good game!"

Little Theater Presents Talent Show # 2

Songs...

...and dance. Everyone's a star!

Campers show off their talents during their time to shine on center stage. Cabin and individual acts were most entertaining and fun for all.

The Camp Scene

Assistant Ski Director, Andrew, has a group of helpers while refueling the Nautique.

Above: The annual Advanced Camper "AC Radio Show" was a night of music in the Dining Hall DJ'd by the campers of Trails End.

Left: Sammi learns how to climb to the top of the pyramid in preparation for the real thing on water during the camper/staff ski show later next week.

Horses like to swim on hot days too! Did everyone turn their buddy tags?

Stepping Stones to A Legacy

Jeremy assists campers in mixing quikcrete to make stepping stones for a patio to be placed behind the main camp bulletin board.

Cabin designs and names are drawn in the wet cement so they can be remembered in years to come.

Vespers is a thoughtful time that takes place in the Council Ring each Sunday before dinner.

The 2007 Vespers theme is "Legacy". Campers are writing their thoughts on scrolls that will be placed in a time capsule that will be buried in the middle of a patio of stepping stones. The capsule is scheduled to be opened and read at Camp Nicolet's 100th reunion

in 2044. Hopefully many of these same campers and staff will be present as Nicolet alumnae at that time.
