Background

Family owned and operated, Camp Nicolet for Girls was founded in 1944 by Ann and Wendall Schrader. For more than five decades, the Schraders were leaders in the field of camping, and dedicated themselves to providing one of the finest camping programs and facilities in the country, a place where campers learn to live together in friendship and harmony.

Perpetuating the family tradition, Georgianna Schrader Starz and son Jeremy oversee the year round operation of the camp. Georgi has been the Camp Director since 1985, is an active Standards Accreditation Visitor for the American Camping Association, President of the ACA Wisconsin Section Board of Directors, and a Camp Course Instructor for USA Water Ski.

Philosophy

Our guiding principle is learning to live together. We believe that the appreciation and understanding of other people and our environment will result in lasting values, ideals, and friendships. By learning to care for each other and to communicate openly, camp becomes a valuable growing experience.

At Camp Nicolet, every camper is a winner! Individual achievement, support of one another, and the spirit and enthusiasm of giving one's best effort are at the heart of Camp Nicolet programs.

Camp Nicolet for Girls is fully accredited by the American Camping Association. This nationally recognized program focuses on program quality and health and safety issues, and requires us to review each facet of our program every three years. Camp Nicolet voluntarily submits to this appraisal done by camp experts, and is proud to earn this mark of distinction. It is your assurance that our facilities, programs, and staff provide a safe an meaningful experience for every girl that comes here.

Enrollment

Camp Nicolet is open to girls ages 8-15. In order to provide individual attention and high-quality instruction, Camp Nicolet limits enrollment to 100 girls per session.

With a reenrollment rate as high as 85 percent, campers represent as many as twenty states and countries including England, Mexico, Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Argentina. Nicolet welcomes diversity and the opportunity to share the camping experience.

Medical Care

Medical care is carefully supervised by the Head of Camp Health, an RN or CPN who resides at camp. A well-equipped infirmary, a detailed emergency plan, and an emergency room 15 minutes away ensure immediate care. A medical history and exam are required of all campers and staff members prior to arrival at camp. Medical insurance is mandatory at a small fee for campers not covered by family insurance.

Religious Life

Campers and staff members of all faiths voluntarily participate in Nicolet's nonsectarian services on Sunday mornings. The traditional Candlelight Vesper Service during the final week of camp is a memorable event and highlights the summer's theme. Traditional camp graces are sung prior to each meal.
