Hello from Camp Nicolet, where the cabins are quiet, the lake is still, but the memories of summer 2003 still linger in the air! We would like to apologize for the lengthy delay in updating the newsletters - camp was very, very busy during the last days of our regular summer session, and then the newsletter editor (namely, myself) was directly involved with the Woodson YMCA Camp which takes place at Nicolet immediately adjacent to our last week of the regular session. And following YMCA camp, the newsletter editor (that's me) moved across the country to begin graduate school for fall '03 and spring '04. But now that the dust of moving into a new apartment has settled, I would like to turn back to clock a little bit and get you caught up on all the fun and excitement which took place at Camp Nicolet during week 6. In just a few days, I will be releasing another edition of "News from Franklin Lake" which will include pictures from Final Banquet, and more! So, thank you in advance for your patience, and enjoy these pictures from week 6 and the beginning of week 7 at Camp Nicolet!

"Pirates of Franklin Lake"
by Jeremy Starz

Since the day skiing was introduced as a Nicolet activity area, the annual ski show has been a long-standing tradition. Each year the show is comprised of talented campers and staff participating in many different acts. The tradtional acts include the flag line, slalom ballet, trick skis, skiing on a canoe paddle, skiing on "shoe skis," barefooting, jumping, skits, and the pyramid. More recently, acts such as double-jumping, wakeboarding, and "swivel ski" have been added to the lineup. The ski show is always based on some sort of theme, and, this year, in line with the popular summer movie, the theme of pirates was chosen. A full plot with skits, music, and even some stunts were part of this year's show. It was a great day with lots of great acts! Shiver me timbers!

Building the 2003 ski show pyramid!

Arrrr! The Nicolet Ski Staff along with Nicolet Campers team up for the 2003 ski show, "Pirates of Franklin Lake!" It was a great show, and congratulations to all who participated... and thanks for watching... to all those who came to ski - I mean see - the show! And congratulations to our winners of the 2003 inter-camp water ski tournament. Great job!

2003 Nicolet
Tennis Tournament
by Jeremy Starz

The Nicolet Tennis Tournament is another traditional activity which takes place during the last week of camp. This year's tournament included the doubles team finals and the singles finals. Congratulations to all of the participants who played great games during the tournament. Also a great big "thank you" to the awesome 2003 Nicolet Tennis Staff who did a wonderful job instructing all campers all summer long! Thanks for your continued enthusiasm and expertise in the tennis area. Again, great job to the 2003 tournament participants. Here are some pictures of the matches!

Thanks again for dropping by this edition of "News from Franklin Lake!" We apologize again for the delay in getting these pictures from the last two weeks of camp to you, but we hope you enjoyed them nontheless. Be on the lookout in the next three or four days for another new edition of the newsletter which will include pictures from the 59th annual Nicolet Horseshow and the 59th annual Final Banquet. It's so hard to believe that camp is over already - it seems like just a few weeks ago we were going through pre-camp training sessions, getting cabins ready, and anticipating the arrival of a great group of campers. Memories of a great summer do still linger in the air at camp, and planning for an awesome 2004 is already in the works. On the website we will keep you posted of important registration and open house information throughout the winter. Also stay tuned for reunion pictures and for news and notes regarding all the happenings at camp. And new this winter, if you would like to make a pictoral or written submission to a winter edition of the newsletter please click here to drop us an e-mail! Let us know what you're up to this winter or send us any pictures of camp reunions around the country and around the globe! Anyway, be on the lookout for the final summer edition of the newsletter coming your way in the next few days or so. In the meantime, thanks for dropping by and Think Sunshine!
